Recently, I attended a wedding shower for a young woman who will marry the love of her life. During the celebration, married women were invited to stand up and give advice to the bride-to-be. Several women gave advice based on Bible verses while some had other wisdom to impart.

The most amusing one came from a relative of the bride. She advised, "Don't wash colored clothing with whites!"

Her advice about laundry reminded me how quickly romance gives way to the practical side of living. That's because love is messy. But, love keeps us going. It keeps us going to work, cleaning house, mowing lawns and washing clothes.

Love is the foundation for God's relationship with us. We see that in John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (New International Version)

It was God's love for us and for all the humans He created that motivated Him to send His only Son, Jesus, into the world to be the one-time sacrifice for our sins. Through an extremely messy death on the cross, God showed His great love for us. There is no greater love than that.

BIBLE VERSE FOR THIS POSTING

John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (New International Version)

Juan 3:16 "Porque de tal manera amó Dios al mundo, que ha dado a su Hijo unigénito, para que todo aquel que en él cree, no se pierda, mas tenga vida eterna." (Reina-Valera 1960)
